Marathon runners crossing a bridge at sunrise

Our Story

It started with a
Garmin and a friend.

“The accountability wasn't a side effect. It was the whole point.”

RP, Founder, RacePace

A friend of mine was training for his first half marathon. He had a real goal, sub-2 hours, not just finishing. I'd trained for an Ironman myself, so I asked him to show me his heart rate data from his runs, because I wanted to actually help him train properly. He couldn't show me anything, because he didn't have a Garmin. And without one, you can't really see what's going on in your training.

He was a student, so buying a watch just wasn't in the budget. I almost just said, let me chip in twenty or fifty euros so you can get one. But that's not really what I wanted. I wanted to follow his training, see his progress, and actually help him get to his goal, not just hand him money.

That's the whole point of RacePace. Helping people achieve their goals, not just donating to them.
